Coastal Trays
This style of moulding is called ‘cassetta’, the term cassetta is Italian and translates to 'little box'. Cassetta frames are characterised by their box-like structure, featuring an inner and outer moulding separated by a flat frieze or band. This design creates a recessed central panel, giving the frame a distinct profile. These frames were commonly used for panel paintings during the Renaissance, emphasising the artwork within a well-defined border.
